Food is a necessity for us all. We all have different diets and/or likes or dislikes, but did you know that your diet could affect your mental health and even your mood? According to Harvard Health, it stated that roughly 95% of your serotonin is produced in your gastrointestinal tract. This section of the body is lined with millions of nerve cells. If you do not know what serotonin is, it is a neurotransmitter that regulates your sleep, appetite, and mood.
Eating healthy promotes good mental health. You can experiment with how food can affect your mood, by eating a “clean” diet (no processed foods or sugars) for about one to two weeks. See how you feel. Then, gradually start adding other foods back into your diet and determine how they make you feel.
