When you have a habit of smoking, it can be difficult to quit, and may take some time. What’s harder is staying smoke free. Here are some tips to help you stay smokefree.

  • Understand your triggers – No matter how long you have been smokefree, certain people, places, things, or situations can cause you to want to smoke. When you understand what your triggers are, you will be able to prepare yourself to fight off the cravings.
  • Beat the cravings – The longer you go without smoking, the more your cravings begin to fade. When you have the craving to smoke, try going for a walk, practice taking deep breaths, or anything else that could help distract you from those cravings.
  • Be positive – Quitting smoking is a process. Make sure to take it one day at a time. Keep a positive outlook to help you get through. Don’t be hard on yourself if you fall back. Get yourself back up and begin again.
