The Importance of Your Gut Health

November 14, 2022

Your gut health is more important to your body than you may realize. Gut health aids in the digestion of foods you eat, how it absorbs nutrients for your body, and how it uses fuel and maintains your body. When your gut health is bad, your body will perform poorly as well.

When the gut is imbalanced, your immune system stops working. For those who suffer from autoimmune disorders, this is how it can begin. The immune system is not the only thing in the body that stops working when the gut is imbalanced. The brain also struggles when the gut is having a hard time as well.

Your gut health (the bacteria in your gut) is the foundation of your overall health. In your gut, you have a balance between good bacteria (which are the helpful ones) and the bad (ones that could potentially be harmful), and yeast in your digestive system. To put it into perspective, 80% of the immune system is made up of the gut. This is also where the majority of your body’s serotonin is.

The gut is where your body gets rid of waste and toxins. Now, what happens when you have an unhealthy gut?

  • Experience chronic fatigue

  • Chronic illnesses

  • Inflammation throughout the body

Some symptoms of bad gut health would be the following;

  • brain fog

  • diarrhea

  • constipation

  • gas

  • joint pain, etc

An unhealthy gut would look like (though some people may experience other symptoms)

  • gas

  • bloating

  • constipation

  • diarrhea

  • and other forms

Now you may be wondering how you can get a healthy gut and/or improve it. Start by managing your stress levels, practicing mindfulness, eating healthy, exercising, getting 7-8 hours of sleep and so much more.
